Some knitting updates

This blanket was my longest running UFO, started in the fall of 2003 for a baby who is now in kindergarten. I finally finished it in January and sent it off to her cousin. It wasn't a difficult knit but I started it right after I began knitting and soon realized that I was over my head. With time and practice (and at least 15 start-overs!) it got a lot easier but also became a bit tedious. Needless to say, I won't be making another one anytime soon.

I also made a warm hat for my hubby who needed one for snowblowing and our new snowshoeing hobby. It had to cover his ears and be very soft. Some wonderful Berocco Peruvian wool fit the bill and he loves his hat.

I bought some Tencel yarn at the Common Ground Fair last fall and used it to make a scarf for an exchange this winter. It was slippery stuff and I had to experiment with different needle sizes to get the gauge I wanted but I was ultimately pleased with the result. I've got a few other projects currently underway: some socks, a star-shaped baby afghan and my Einstein coat. And the queue for future projects is very long. I've got enough projects to carry me well into the next decade. It's a good thing my stash is up to the task!

Re-entering Earth's Atmosphere

After a six month absence from the blogosphere I am finally back, hopefully for keeps. This picture sums up the way I have often felt over that span...it's been a bumpy few months. No chasms or deep gorges but a whole bunch of frost heaves and potholes to navigate. I don't expect completely smooth roads by any means but I'm hopeful the ride will be a little smoother.

Truth be told, I'm glad to be back. I've missed blogging but not the hours and hours it took to post an entry. Thanks to fellow Raveler Debbie who explained how easy it is to blog pictures directly from my Flickr account. That hopefully means I can post more frequently with less frustration. I have so many great pictures in my Flickr account (under the user name "Mabhatter") so expect to see nature pictures, shots of my crazy pooch Isla as well as the obligatory knitting stuff.

I won't try to play catch up with everything over the past six months but here is another picture taken last fall on our foliage trek up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
